Edition Binding

Short run edition binding is our forte. Whether the book is a collection of poetry, a research report, genealogy, cookbook, novel, collection of prints or photographs, we have a binding format to suit.

Since all work is custom, we can accommodate nearly any size format. We have in stock a wide variety of materials, both cloth and leather, and will special order on request. We have produced books with metal and wood covers and others with hand-woven fabric. We cast our own type for many applications and can order hot stamping dies from your artwork. We also offer design and printing services. Please call for price quotations.

Journal and Magazine Binding

Bessenberg Bindery can bind your journals and magazines to match nearly any format you may have had your books bound in before. We have nearly a hundred type fonts, in variety of faces and sizes. We carry a variety of colors of buckram, and many colors/textures of imitation leather. If you need to have a magazine or organization logo stamped on the cover, we can arrange to make a magnesium die, from your art work or our artist's.

Thesis and Dissertation Binding

Different universities have different formats required for thesis and dissertations. We can meet any format requirement. All our bindings are sewn and with hard covers. We include the full title, author name and date of acceptance foil stamped on the spine or front cover, as necessary. We also offer printing service, black and white and color. We accept work by mail or email on a regular basis, and can return ship nearly anywhere in the world.

Transcripts and Closing Books

We can bind any format of document up to 14" in height, and 3" in thickness. All bindings are sewn and are covered in high durability buckram or imitation leather. Titling on the spine and front cover is in metal foil. Company logos can be included in the titling.  Although we prefer to have complete sets of documents sent to us for binding, we do offer duplication service. Confidentiality can be replied upon.

We recognize the time-sensitive nature of closing documents and priority is given to legal work in the shop.

Book Repair

We began as a business repairing old book for collectors and booksellers and for libraries, and work is in private and public collections from coast to coast. We bind in many historical styles, in cloth and leather. All work is done with sensitivity to the book's original style of binding. We offer paper repair, including washing and resizing. If rebinding is not appropriate, or if repairs are too costly to undertake immediately; archival storage boxes may be the answer. Because each book is unique, it is difficult to speak of prices for rebinding without seeing the object first hand. We offer no obligation estimates on all repair work brought / sent to the shop. Bible Repair

A sub classification of book repair, Bible repair deserves special attention. We repair all types of Bibles and prayer books, from small pocket books to pulpit and family Bibles. As with all book repair, the cost of rebinding depends on the size and condition of the book to be worked on, as well as on the materials used, and whether the old covers and spine are to be saved.

Advertising Prototypes

We've been active in providing prototype pieces and one-of-a-kind object for the advertising industry in Michigan for twenty years. Our clients have asked for books and boxes and portfolios in leather, wood, metal, plastics and paper, painted, gilded, foil stamped, embossed, folded, to be used as props for photo shoots, to be sent to their clients, and to be given out to conferences and shows. We'll make one or a thousand. Whatever your budget will allow. We're experienced, creative and we'll work with you to make your idea come to life.
